On leaving the lodge for the morning drive we found a hyena drinking water at the pan in front of the lodge. We then came across a young male leopard sleeping in the road; as we approached he got up and started stretching and then slowly started walking down the road in front of the vehicle. A breeding herd of elephants was then seen as they slowly grazed along the road; they were extremely relaxed and some of the bulls came very close to the vehicle. We then followed up on the Mapogos (male lions) of last night and found them lying in the same area. General game was once again in abundance with sightings of blue wildebeest, zebra, impala and kudus. The evening drive started off with a small herd of giraffe at the waterhole, unfortunately they moved off quickly when we got there as they are extremely nervous while drinking. We moved off and found a breeding herd of buffalo on the main road grazing slowly; we spent some time with them and eventually we were totally surrounded by the herd as they were extremely relaxed. Next we came across a female rhino drinking at the pan, we weren’t there for a few minutes when the call came in that the female leopard, Nyaleti had been seen. She was next to the road when we found her and was interested in some impala that were grazing close by. She eventually gave up though as an opportunity did not present it self and lay down under a bush and relaxed. We then slowly started making our way back to the lodge and had a great sighting of a hyena slowly making his way down the driveway. General game was once again in abundance with great sightings of zebra, impala and blue wildebeest. |
