First on our sightings list were the black-backed jackal pups, the adults have moved the pups to a new den which is close to where the old one was. The pups are very relaxed and inquisitive at the moment which provided for a very special sighting. We then found one of the Styx female lions lying in the shade, she was not making any attempt to move off in a hurry. Next we found the Tshololos, of three female lions and one young male lion busy sleeping next to one of the pans in the area. Their stomachs were full and they also showed no intention of budging. On our way back to the lodge we found Tshabala, the elephant bull with the corkscrew tusk. What an amazing afternoon drive we had today! We started the drive off with six rhinos grazing next to the road as they slowly made their way towards the vehicle. Next we came across a large elephant bull on the fire break; he was not too happy with us being in the vicinity so we shortly left him and moved off. The female leopard Karula and her two youngsters were found still on the impala kill. Just down the road from them we sighted a small herd of Dagga boys, old buffalo bulls, moving through the bush. The highlight of the drive was seeing the Tshololo pride of three female lions and one male lion. They were now feeding on a wildebeest kill that they had made in the morning, they weren’t alone however as ten hyena were hanging around in the area. We then slowly started making our way back to the lodge and found the male leopard, Tyson and Salaheshe, the female leopard, mating. Then on our driveway we found three of the Styx, female lions, busy hunting. |
