As we left the lodge for our evening drive, our main aim for the drive was to see if we can pick up on any Rhino tracks, as we were missing rhino on our list. Not long after we left the lodge our first sighting was a Leopard (White cloth), she was walking down one of the entrances towards us. As soon as she approached the vehicle we could see that she had a nasty injury to her left back leg. It looked like she must have had a territorial fight with one of the other resident females. Once we left that sighting we carried on with our rhino tracking plan, we found tracks but no rhino. My tracker decided to take a road that was not in my plan, so I took the road less favoured and there in the road was a breading herd of Elephants. I stopped underneath a Marula tree for some shade, while we watched the Elephants slowly move towards the road, I could see that the matriarch had spotted the marula's and changed her direction... and that was towards us. But I kept my ground and the Elephants surrounded the vehicle but they were extremely relaxed and offered us great photographic opportunities, then one decided to come right up to the open vehicle and stretched out it's trunk to smell what was happening inside the vehicle. But before he got too naughty he shook his head and joined the rest of the herd feasting on the marulas. The sun was getting low so we needed to make our way to the drinking spot for sundowners, then as we reached the area for sundowners we spotted once again Mbilu the young female leopard on a termite mound. She is such a beautiful female leopard, she was posing and rolling around and giving us such awesome moments just realising that she is so at peace with her surroundings. After our drinks break we started making our way back to the lodge ...........without that elusive Rhino. |

It was overcast this morning so it was a very pleasant start to the morning game drive. We followed up on the Lions of last night but unfortunately they had moved off and we were unfortunately unable to find them. We drove along the firebreak road and found two Little Bee Eaters perched on a twig not far off the road. Further on we found two old Buffalo bulls that had been wallowing in a waterhole as they were still very wet. General game was in abundance, but we slowly started moving west. We stopped and enjoyed our coffee at the rocks, the Starlings were around and did not refuse the offer of a piece of rusk they. While enjoying our coffee the call came over the radio that Mbilu (Leopard) had been seen at big dam, we were not far so we made our way there, and to our amazement found her playing with a round leaf teak and having fun. Suddenly a Hyena came out the bush and went straight at Mbilu but she quickly got up and was ready to defend herself. Growling at the hyena made him think twice about moving closer. That gave her enough time to get up a tree and out of harms way. Realizing he could not get her, he disappeared into the direction he had come from, a few minutes after the Hyena had moved off she came down the tree again and made herself comfortable in the shade, she offered us great photographic opportunities, we then slowly started making our way back to the lodge. On our way back we saw a Verreaux's Eagle Owl sitting in a large shady tree but he took off and swooped straight over our heads.
